Self defence classes can help female victims avoid street violence and improve their chances of getting back home. However, some people choose not to take these courses for various reasons: fear, prejudice, low confidence levels. In fact, the need for self defence training could be much higher than many might think. It is easy to forget that there are countless females living in fear of being attacked who have no other options or hope left but to fight back with little or no knowledge of what they’re doing. Self defence classes will teach you how to effectively defend yourself and counter-attack an attacker, leaving them little if any chance at all. More than simply teaching you how to defend yourself from other people, this type of class will teach you how to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your property in the event of an attack. There’s also a lot of emotional damage that can take place afterwards from being attacked and victimized. A self defence course would allow you to learn coping methods for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Indeed, learning how to protect yourself can make a huge difference to a woman’s chance at survival when coming face-to-face with an attacker.
Here are some just some examples of what women have told us: “Why don’t they teach women more about self defence?”
“We are taught very little about it in school”.
“Why don’t women carry weapons for protection?”
“I would take a self defence class”. Self defence classes teach you how to use your body and voice to fight back. They also teach you how to use everyday items around you, such as pens, keys, laptops or even your cell phone. These are things that are in reach of most people in the world of today and they have the power to deter an attacker from attacking you. An important skill for every female to learn is how to protect their bodies from strangers and even friends who just happen to be drunk and out of it that night. This is not something that everyone is taught in school and people do not watch enough horror movies to learn the skills that are taught in this type of class.
“I would feel more secure with a gun”. Self Defence classes for women teach you how to use your body, not just weapons. You do not need a gun to defend yourself, your family or your property from an attacker. You can use the skills alone without any weapon at all or use objects like pens, keys or your cell phone as weapons against an attacker. You will be able to use everyday items around you and when it’s time to fight back use them as things need be.
“I would feel more secure knowing how to defend myself in the event of an emergency”. Moving forwards, self defence courses will teach you how to defend yourself from all types of attackers. Not only do you need to be able to stop them from attacking you, but once they are finished you need to be able to get yourself out of trouble or prevent someone else from getting themselves into trouble. If you’re attacked by someone that is armed what would you do?
Self defence courses teach not just what to do when this type of situation happens you will also learn what not do’s. For example, don’t use violence on a woman because she is still “attractive” or has a nice figure. It’s no different from “rape” and it’s still abuse.
Talented instructors will teach you how to be aggressive only when you need to be. For example, when someone is trying to hurt or dominate you. Self defence courses will not teach you how to break the law. The techniques used are created for self-defence and cater for laws all over the world that protect people of all ages and sexes.
“Why don’t we try something other than self defence classes?”. It is hard to forget that there are countless females living in fear of being attacked who have no other options or hope left but to fight back with little if any knowledge of what they’re doing.
