Be patient and let the word of mouth be your best friend.
It is true that the internet is a very powerful tool for spreading the news, but it’s also a very powerful tool for spreading negative info. There are numerous ways to avoid this, but a really great way is to let negative information drop and then be ready to take it back up.
If you don’t want to be sucked into negative word of mouth, then you are going to need to be very careful about which stories you spread. If you spread a story about the world being destroyed and you are then told that it is true because an internet search shows it to be true, what you have done is made it true. You will probably get a lot of backlash as well, but it only makes sense in the long run.
So what do you do when you are being a dick and spread a bunch of news about a disaster, but then no one else seems to care about it? You take that bit of news back and spread it a little more. That way, people aren’t so quick to believe your bullshit when someone else has had a similar experience. The key is to be flexible. If you are spreading bad news about a disaster, you want to be able to spread it again and again.
A friend of mine recently got a good friend over the internet that was talking about a “dumb” situation, which is a great example of a time-loop mentality. He had a friend that had had an accident and had been in a coma for the past two or three days since he was killed. This friend was trying to fix a broken window. He was also trying to fix a dead car.
The problem is when you are trying to fix something that is already broken, the first time you try to fix it, you can end up just making it worse. When your friend was trying to fix the window, he ended up making the glass on the window even worse and it was a huge disaster. The next time you try to fix a window, you can end up just making it even worse.
